Vietnam is a sovereign state located in the east of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia. It borders the People’s Republic of China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east and south.
With a population of over 90 million, it is the 14th most populous country in the world, with Hanoi as its capital since its reunification in 1976.
Vietnamese culture comes from a rich confluence of many others, including Chinese, Japanese, French and American influences.
