Slovenia is a small country in Eastern Europe, bordered to the north by Austria, to the east by Hungary, to the east and south by Croatia and to the west by Italy and the Adriatic Sea. The country is located at the meeting of four major European regions: the Alps, the Dinaric, the Pannonian and the Mediterranean.
The capital is Ljubljana, which is also the country’s most populous city.
It has been part of the European Union since 2004, and is also the only former communist country to be part of the European Union, the Schengen Agreement, the Eurozone, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Council of Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization at the same time.
Slovenia is known for its beautiful mountainous landscapes, but it also has lots of natural wonders underground, most of which are impossible to visit.
