Kosovo is a country of limited recognition located on the Balkan peninsula in south-eastern Europe, in the region of the former Yugoslavia.
It is a landlocked country in the center of the Balkans and borders the uncontested territory of Serbia to the north and east, North Macedonia to the southeast, Albania to the southwest, and Montenegro to the west. It has varied and diverse landscapes and a temperate climate.
Most of central Kosovo is dominated by the vast plains of the Metohija and Kosovo fields. The Albanian Alps and the Šar Mountains lie to the southwest and southeast, respectively.
