Montenegro is located in Southwest Europe and shares borders with Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia. This small republic is mountainous and situated in the Balkans, with Podgorica as its capital city. It used to be part of the former Yugoslavia and gained independence from Serbia in 2006.
Montenegro is a Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages, and a narrow strip of beaches along the Adriatic coast, covering an area of 13,812 km².
