Antarctica

Antarctica is the southernmost continent on the planet and covers an area of 14 million square kilometers.

Temperatures in Antarctica are the lowest on the planet due to several factors, the most significant being its latitude. Located at the southernmost tip of planet Earth, the icy continent receives the least amount of solar radiation and heat.

There are several research bases in Antarctica. Scientists of almost 30 nationalities stay there for a few months each year to study marine life, the Earth’s climate and other topics.
