Belize is a country belonging to the Caribbean Community on the northeast coast of Central America.
It borders Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea and Guatemala. English is the official language, although there are many other languages.
Offshore, Belize’s huge Barrier Reef, dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands called cayes, is home to a rich marine life.
Belize’s jungle areas are home to Mayan ruins such as Caracol, famous for its towering pyramid; Lamanai on the edge of the lagoon; and Altun Ha, just outside Belize City.
