Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a mountainous country on the narrow isthmus of Central America, with Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. To the east and west are the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean respectively.

It has over 25% of its area protected as a national park or wildlife reserve. This is the highest percentage of protected territory of any other country in the world.

Coffee has played a major role in Costa Rica’s economic development, as it was the country’s main export product for decades. In 2020, a law enacted coffee, called the “golden bean”, as one of the national symbols.
