Japan

Japan is an Asian country made up of four main islands – Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku – and over 4,000 small islands, with a total surface area of nearly 378,000 km2.

Geographically, Japan is a mountainous country with abundant vegetation and deeply cut valleys.

Its population exceeds 126 million, most of whom live in urban areas. The capital is Tokyo, with a population of approximately 12 million. Other major cities are, for example: Yokohama; Osaka; Nagoya; Sapporo; Kobe; Fukuoka; Hiroshima.

There are 108 active volcanoes in Japan.
