Tajikistan

Tajikistan, officially the Republic of Tajikistan, is a mountainous, landlocked country in Central Asia bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. Tajikistan also lies adjacent to Pakistan, but is separated by the narrow Wakhan Corridor.

Its capital is Dushambe, the country’s largest city.

Following its independence from the USSR in 1991, Tajikistan suffered a devastating civil war, which lasted from 1992 to 1997. Since the end of the war, newly created political stability and foreign aid has allowed the country to grow.

The local currency is called the somoni.
