Turkey, whose official name is the Republic of Turkey, is a Eurasian country located at the western end of Asia, stretching across Eastern Thrace in south-eastern Europe.
It is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest, Greece to the west, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan’s Nakhev enclave to the northeast, Iran to the east and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. The Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus lie to the south, the Aegean Sea to the southwest-west and the Black Sea to the north. The Sea of Marmara, the Bosporus and the Dardanelles, which together form the Turkish Straits, mark the border between Thrace and Anatolia and separate Europe from Asia.
The capital of Turkey is Ankara, a city of about 5.6 million inhabitants. However, the largest city is Istanbul with an estimated 15.46 million inhabitants.
