Uzbekistan, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan, is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia. It is surrounded by five landlocked countries: Kazakhstan to the north; Kyrgyzstan to the northeast; Southeast Tajikistan; Afghanistan to the south; and Turkmenistan to the southwest. With an area of around 450,000 km2, Uzbekistan has the highest population density of all Central Asian countries, estimated at 32.5 million inhabitants. Its capital and largest city is Tashkent.
