The Republic of Botswana is an inland country, situated in the heart of southern Africa.
It was a former British protectorate called Bechuanaland until it became independent on May 30, 1966, adopting the name Botswana.
It is a country of its own, because unlike many African countries, its independence was peaceful and the country had democratic governments and uninterrupted elections, without suffering any coup d’état. Its capital is Gaborone, which is also the largest city in Botswana.
It is a safe country, and since its independence in 1966 – it has been considered one of the poorest countries in the world. Since then, it has transformed into one of the fastest growing economies on the African continent through a stable government that promotes social peace, good management of natural resources and protected areas, that has set Botswana as an example to follow.
This country is home to the largest delta in the world: the Okavango Delta!
