Jordan is a Hashemite Arab kingdom located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe.
Due to its geographical position, several peoples inhabited the region from the Paleolithic, Late Bronze Age and Antiquity, such as the Nabataeans and Romans.
It was later occupied by the Ottomans and became a protectorate of the United Kingdom until its independence in 1946.
All of these peoples – some more than others – have left an archaeological legacy of great value, most notably the Nabatean city of Petra.
Its capital is the city of Amman, which is also its economic and cultural center. The deserts of this country have been the setting for countless films due to their great beauty.
