South Africa, officially known as the Republic of South Africa, is a country located in the extreme south of Africa bathed by the Atlantic and Indian oceans, with almost 3000 kilometers of coastline. It is bordered by Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe to the north; Mozambique and Eswatini to the east; and has Lesotho as an enclave, completely surrounded by South African territory.
The country is known for its biodiversity and the wide variety of cultures, languages and religious beliefs. The Constitution recognizes 11 official languages. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans, a language that mainly originated from Dutch, and South African English, which is the most commonly spoken day-to-day language in public and commercial institutions.
