Dia 3 Jakarta. Flight Jakarta - Yogyakarta

Jakarta is the capital and economic center of the country and of Java.

We will take a city tour, highlighting a walk through Kota Tua, the old Dutch colonial quarter and the Kelapa port. If we have time and depending on the flight schedule to Yogyakarta, we will visit the capital's main square, Merdeka Square where the country's national monument - Monas, built to commemorate Indonesia's independence struggle, is located.
We then have the private transfer to the airport and the flight to Yogyakarta usually at the end of the day.

Dia 4 Yogyakarta

Today is a day for us to get to know and explore this ancient capital of Indonesia, Yogyakarta lies in the center of the island of Java and was developed at a time when the inland part of the island was the heart and soul of Java. In the morning we start the day at the Keraton Palace, built in the 18th century for the sultans of Yogya and one of the finest examples of Javanese architecture, followed by a walk through traditional streets to the Taman Sari complex, the "water castle" designed by a Portuguese architect also in the XVIII century.

In the afternoon we will visit the Prambanan temple - one of the largest Hindu temples in Southeast Asia and considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, dating from the IX century - which will occupy part of the afternoon. In the evening, and as an option, we will attend an unforgettable performance in the Ramayana theater, where the Hindu imaginary characters, such as Rama, Sita, Ravana or Hanuman among others, come to life (subject to availability of the performance at the time of our visit).

This morning will be spent freely and independently exploring the markets of Yogyakarta, known for their attractively priced "batiks".
As dusk falls we follow the sunset over the hills in front of the temple of Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the World and considered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
After a local dinner, and before returning to the hotel, we will occupy our time in an... unexpected but certainly fun and unforgettable way.

Dia 6 Yogyakarta - Mojokerto - Bromo

Day on the road. First by train to Mojokerto, where we take a private transport to the vicinity of Mount Bromo. Along the way we will traverse the verdant, tropical landscape of Central Java ever upward to Mount Bromo, part of the largest volcanic system in the region. Bromo is just one of the many volcano peaks on the horizon, but it differs from the rest in that it no longer has its top and is constantly spewing white smoke. It will be an unforgettable sight indeed.

Dia 7 Bromo sunrise tour - Ijen

Early in the morning, at 3AM, we will go by jeep to the viewpoint of Mount Pananjakan from where we contemplate a sunrise that will forever remain in our memories, with a series of volcanoes on the horizon, including Bromo and the also active Semeru.
Then we cross the "sand sea" (ashes), from where we climb to the peak of Bromo, to observe its caldera.

By 8AM we will be back at the hotel where we calmly have breakfast, dust off the ashes from the climb, and begin an approximately 6 hours drive to our next destination, Ijen.
Upon arrival we take the opportunity to rest and regain our strength with the energy of the verdant nature that surrounds our hotel.

Dia 8 Ijen

Today the day will be used for us to explore some of the east of Java which is green and full of rice fields and lush palm forests. We will walk to natural pools through green forests and terraced rice fields that are on par with Bali. We will get to know this less explored corner of Indonesia.
The day will end early, because later tonight we will wake up very early to start the ascent to the crater of the Ijen volcano.

Dia 9 Ijen Tour - departure to Bali

We leave early today at 00:30AM and will take private transport to the foot of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations, rice fields and rainforests that only moonlight illuminates at that hour. We will hike up the slopes of the Ijen volcano to its peak where we will enjoy a stunning natural setting for sunrise.

We will rest at the crater's edge, at an altitude of almost 2,800 meters, where we can best appreciate the view of the world's largest acid lake in altitude, from where walls of calcined earth rise up that transport us to Mars, providing us with a breathtaking landscape. We also have the opportunity to observe and talk to the sulfur haulers who every day descend and ascend the mines by the lake and then to the base of the volcano by extremely dangerous roads with little or no conditions.
(Descent to the sulfur mines and to observe the "blue fires" is subject to permission from the authorities on site since October 2018).

We then return to the hotel to have breakfast, pack our bags and start the journey to the island of Bali. In Bali it is an hour later than in Java. We cross by ferry from Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk and from there we continue to the town of Lovina, our first contact with the sea and the beach, to rest from days of travel and early morning volcano climbs.

Dia 10 From Lovina to Ubud

Today we wake up to the smell of the sea, reminding us that we are on vacation.
The day is dedicated to the journey between Lovina and the city of Ubud. On the way, and accompanied by Kadec who will guide us, we will pass through some villages with Balinese architecture present and showing in its splendor in the ornate temples and house buildings, that in some cases are authentic works of art.
Highlights include the rice terraces in Jatiluwih; the green forests that we will cross accompanied by views of the distant volcanoes that cut the horizon; and one of the most beautiful temple complexes in Bali, the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan which lies within Lake Bratan and is dedicated precisely to the Gods of the Lake.

We arrive in Ubud just in time to check into the hotel and have dinner, feeling the pulse of the vibrant energy of the city for the first time.

Dia 11 Ubud, the city of healing

Bali is famous for being the island of the Gods due to the faith with which the Hindus who have resiliently occupied the island over the centuries devote themselves to their gods. This results in centuries-old temples and rituals that are present in each and every moment of Balinese life.
Ubud means healing, and that is precisely what we will be doing throughout the days here. A healing from stress and rushing around. This healing will take place between massages, purification in temples, relaxing among rice fields, and feeling the vacations with the best the city has to offer.

So enjoy the free morning to relax in the hotel pool; get lost in the streets and alleys with rice fields, temples and purification rituals at every moment; stop by one of the many cafes observing life or buy something in one of the many stores full of creativity and spirituality.

In the afternoon we propose a cooking class that is much more than just a cooking class. We will go to the village where Dewa and his wife Giro's home is located. They will be our hosts and will guide us through the Balinese culture and food with a tour of their farm and traditional house. Spurred by the playful and honest spirits of Dewa and Giro we challenge our culinary skills in a class that will stay in our memory forever and are treated to a fantastic and diverse dinner cooked by us (there are vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes). We then return to Ubud at the end of the day full of stories and increased culinary repertoire.
If you don't want to participate in this cultural, human and culinary experience (included in the tour), you can stay in town and the tour leader will have suggestions on how to occupy your time.

The morning is free and we can take today to explore Ubud's local market with all kinds of traditional Balinese artifacts, the "monkey forest" with its sacred spaces and lots of monkeys eager to try to take something from us; Ubud's palace and Saraswati temple are other Ubud highlights.

We then have lunch in the rice fields of Tegalalang, immortalized in the movie "Eat, Pray, Love" and from there we head for the temple of Tirta Empul where the Balinese take their prayers and purification very seriously.

We return to Ubud at the end of the day.

We will spend part of the morning here and have lunch by this beach before returning to Ubud for a free afternoon where you can relax with a traditional Balinese massage, a sauna with Balinese medicinal pastes, the boreh, or however you prefer.
We meet for a final dinner in Ubud where the rice fields make their presence felt as we bid farewell to these parts as tomorrow is the day we move on to Kuta.

Alternatively, if you wish, and with the help of your tour leader, you can venture out to the island of Nusa Penida for a snorkeling expedition with manta rays and other fish and some coral, as well as swimming at some of the island's beaches.
There will also be time for some last minute shopping for souvenirs and gifts.

Yes, arrival and departure transfers are included and are arranged between the tour leader and the participants before arrival at the destination or before the return departure. On this trip there is a group flight, that is, there is a specific time for arrival and the transfers will be according to the arrival of that flight. How much money should I bring for my personal expenses?

It is recommended that you take between 150 and 200 Eur for food and transport expenses not included. On site you can change Euros to Indonesian Rupiah as needed or you can take a card and withdraw as needed. For purchases or payments on site you can always use a credit or debit card paying your bank's fees. There are some banks or fintechs such as N26 or Revolut that are very attractive in terms of fees for withdrawals and payments abroad. If you choose to bring money we recommend changing on arrival at the places recommended by the guide and not taking money changed from Portugal or the country of origin because the exchange rate is better in Indonesia.
