Dia 3 El Calafate - El Chaltén. Trekking Fitz Roy

After breakfast, we will take an express bus to El Chaltén. It's 137 miles of incredibly beautiful landscapes. Along the way, we will make a stop to grab a bite to eat and have a hot coffee.

El Chaltén is a small and picturesque town, considered the trekking capital of Argentina. It is located at the base of the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre massifs. Upon arrival, we will begin our trek for today, carrying only the essentials for 2 nights and 3 days with overnight stays at campsites within the national park. The remaining luggage and equipment that we won't need will be stored at the agency's office until our return to El Chaltén.

We will hike along the "Fitz Roy Trail" until we reach the "Rio de las Vueltas" valley, which offers us a breathtaking landscape.

After about 2 hours of walking, we will start catching glimpses of the Fitz Roy massif. Following accessible trails, we will have approximately 3 more hours until we reach the campsite. It's a location with incredible views of Fitz Roy and the surrounding landscape.

The campsite is set up in designated areas at the beginning of the season, so when we arrive, we will already have comfortable igloo-shaped tents set up, including inflatable mats and sleeping bags. The campsite also includes a spacious dining tent with chairs and tables, as well as a kitchen tent and sanitary facilities.

Dia 4 Trekking Fitz Roy - Laguna de Los Tres

Early in the morning, before breakfast, we can witness the sunrise and see the morning light painting the massive granite walls of Fitz Roy (3405m) in shades of pink. It's safe to say that this experience alone is worth the entire trip! But of course, many more days of exploring Patagonia's nature are yet to come.

After breakfast, carrying only our personal gear like raincoats, gloves, water bottles, and lunch boxes, we start the hike, following the Fitz Roy Trail until we reach Rio Branco, the base camp for climbers who ascend the vertical walls on the eastern side of Fitz Roy. From this point, we will ascend a trail that leads us to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the national park, called Laguna de los Tres. It is framed in an idyllic setting at the base of the massif, with its waters painted in an intoxicating blue and glacial whites.

Fitz Roy, towering at 3405 meters above sea level, with its walls rising up to 1500 meters from the glacier base, offers us a magical scenery. It's no wonder that Fitz Roy is considered the "King of Patagonia" and one of the three most beautiful mountains on Earth, along with Alpamayo (Peru) and K2 (Pakistan).

We will return to the campsite by late afternoon.

Today's trek: Distance - 4.3-5 miles/ Duration - 5-6 hours (with the possibility of extending by 2.5-3.1 miles/ 2 hours).

From there, we will continue through beech forests, swamps, and shrubs until we reach "Laguna Torre," nestled among moraines and the "Glaciar Grande." We might even have the chance to see some floating icebergs in this beautiful lagoon, which is accompanied by the elegant Cerro Torre, reaching an impressive height of 3128 meters and offering us spectacular views.

In the afternoon, we will hike back to El Chaltén through the Cerro Torre trail.

Accommodation will be in dormitories with 4 to 8 beds, and dinner is not included, allowing for flexibility in dining arrangements. There is also the possibility of upgrading to a double or single room.

There is also the well-deserved bonus of the views from a place called "Paso del Viento."

Depending on the group's ability, we may attempt the ascent of this mountain on foot, which is long but gradual.

We will return to El Chalten by late afternoon.

Accommodation will be in dormitories with 4 to 8 beds, and free dinner. There is also the possibility of upgrading to a double or single room.

In the afternoon, we will return to Calafate.

Today, we have the option to take an optional hike to "Lago del Desierto" or hike to "Piedra del Fraile." The choice will depend on the weather conditions and the group's pace.

Dia 8 El Calafate - Perito Moreno Glacier

This day is dedicated to visiting one of the natural wonders of the world: the Perito Moreno glacier. This glacier slides down from the Patagonian Andes and is home to an ice sheet covering about 22,000 square meters!

It is the third largest glacier on the planet, after the ice area of Antarctica (14 million km2) and Greenland (1 million km2). Due to its exceptional location conditions, it is the only one that presents us with the grandiose spectacle of its ice breakup and melting process. The road takes us to «the mouth of the glacier», a short trail will take us almost to its «insides»... A unique and unforgettable experience to be so close to unimaginable natural forces.

The sound of large chunks of ice the size of buildings over 20 floors or of boats the size of cruise liners that often crash into turquoise waters is terrifying.

Return trip of approximately 1h30 (48 miles), free time.

Note: If you want to do a mini trekking at Perito Moreno glacier, let us know in advance to find out the cost and make an appointment, as this day's visit is the classic excursion to walk on the local walkways.

Dia 9 El Calafate - Torres del Paine National Park (Chile)

Today we will wake up early, but it will be worth it as we are going to visit one of the wonders of Patagonia, Torres del Paine National Park, located in Chile. Around 6 AM, we will depart in a vehicle towards the national park. Along the way, the landscape is stunning as we will travel through the legendary "Route 40," characterized by the Patagonian steppe.

A notable section on the route is the "Sierra de Los Baguales," an impressive massif between Calafate and Paine.

We will cross the border into Chile at Cancha Carrera/Cerro Castillo. Once in Chilean territory, we will continue the final stretch to Torres del Paine National Park, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we approach the park, we will start to catch glimpses of some of the most iconic mountains, such as Paine Grande, Horns, Admiral Nieto, and the Towers.

Upon entering the park, we will embark on a short 0,6-1,2 miles hike to acquaint ourselves with the landscape and weather conditions, especially the strong winds that are common in this region. The park is rich in fauna and flora, and it is common to observe guanacos, rheas, condors, and various species of birds of prey. One of the highlights of this magnificent place is its incredibly diverse flora, with a wide range of flower species.

Returning to the vehicle, we will arrive at the campsite located at the base of the Paine Massif. We will spend the night in tents.
